The burden of vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) and the importance of immunisation are recognised in the Global Vaccine Action Plan and the recently released Immunisation Agenda 2030 of the World Health Organization (WHO).Since 2019, we have increased our reach and engagement to support the strengthening of immunisation uptake via regional and global collaborations, particularly to the Indo-Pacific region, as articulated in our Strategic Plan 2019–2023. Under this plan we are undertaking a number of activities, such as supporting Australia’s response to COVID-19 and all vaccine access in the region; deploying technical staff to the region; providing support to the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) in Timor Leste; and leading the formation and operationalisation of the Australian Regional Immunisation Alliance (ARIA).
