It is the first study of its kind to comprehensively document the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on vaccination coverage in Australia. The report shows that fully vaccinated coverage in children has declined across Australia since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among other findings, it also reveals that pandemic impacts on vaccination coverage were greater in remote areas with a high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In 2016–2019 Indigenous status completeness at the national level was over 90% for most VPDs in the NNDS, but lower for influenza (37.4%), pertussis (59.2%) and rotavirus (69.7%), all of which are high incidence diseases either fully or predominantly notified by laboratories, with some variation by jurisdiction and age group.
