Australian Vaccinology Course launches with impact

The inaugural Australian Vaccinology Course 2025 brought together more than 80 immunisation leaders, researchers, policymakers, clinicians and providers for a landmark meeting of the minds on the future of immunisation.

Developed by NCIRS in partnership with the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute, the intensive three-day course delivered over 20 hours of interactive lectures, case studies, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, simulations and role plays – all of which were led by internationally-recognised immunisation experts.

It also served to reinforce a shared commitment to advance vaccine equity, innovation and impact – in Australia and globally.

‘Our expert facilitators led multiple interactive sessions designed to educate participants on the importance of communication across the immunisation ecosystem,’ explained Professor Nicholas Wood, Associate Director, NCIRS.

‘So, whether participants work at the coal face, or in government or the pharmaceutical industry, they had the opportunity to learn from world-renowned immunisation experts, be inspired and take this knowledge back to the community – where it will hopefully translate to increased vaccine confidence and acceptance.’

Professor Allen Cheng, Director, Infectious Diseases, Monash Health and Monash University, seconded Professor Wood’s thoughts.

‘Immunisation is a complex field, with multiple dynamics to consider across policy and clinical practice – and no one person can know everything in this space.

‘It was inspiring to see experts from different disciplines collaborate, ask questions and share knowledge. Those who attended – both as faculty and participants – are the people who will shape immunisation policy and drive change.’

The Australian Vaccinology Course is designed to equip participants with the critical knowledge and skills needed to:

  • confidently navigate the complex and evolving landscape of vaccine science and policymaking
  • address immunisation program-related questions from diverse stakeholders
  • contribute meaningfully to local and national immunisation decision-making and strategies
  • become a trusted advocate for immunisation in their community and country
  • play a pivotal role in improving vaccine uptake.
