National Immunisation Catch-up Calculator V1.0 now available

The first release of the National Immunisation Catch-up Calculator (NICC) developed by the Australian Government Department of Health is now available from the Australian Government Department of Health Australian Immunisation Handbook website (also known as the Online Handbook). The initial calculator is referred to as NICC V1.0 and replaces the immunisation calculator hosted on the South Australian Department of Health website.

What’s changed?

The “look and feel” reflects the National Immunisation Program (NIP) branding. This includes:

• a link to the NICC V1.0 from the Online Handbook 
• ensuring updates to NIP content are reflected in the NICC calculations.

NICC V1.0 has been modelled to include a "guided process" for entering key data (such as immunisation history) before the catch-up schedule calculation.

Providers are able to enter previous vaccinations by:

• antigen name
• vaccine name.

What stays the same?

The functionality of calculating immunisation catch-up schedules has not been changed in NICC V1.0.

• NICC V1.0 does not include additional cohorts.
• Future releases will focus on expanding to people over the age of 10 years.

 Why did it need to change?

This change initiative is part of the wider process to consolidate Australian immunisation content to a centralised location.  

By providing the NICC from the official Australian Government website:

• it will be easier to find for the wider Australian public
• it is aligned with Whole of Australian Government technologies and the ICT architecture roadmap:
    - “future-proofing” the website and calculator functions, including the ability to extend functionality
    - consolidating ongoing support arrangements.

This ensures NICC V1.0 is the first step in providing a larger "whole of life" NICC.
