This research aims to inform continuous improvement of AIR data to evaluate the National Immunisation Program (NIP) outcomes and to provide improved information and feedback to providers and patients. View this report Key findings - Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018 2019 This summary report presents key findings from the Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018 which focussed on changes in immunisation coverage among all children aged <5 years at key milestone ages of 12, 24 and 60 months between 2017 and 2018. The summary report shows 'fully vaccinated' coverage at 12, 24 and 60 months; individual vaccine/antigen coverage; rotavirus, MMR and influenza vaccination coverage; and coverage among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children while highlighting timeliness of vaccination issues as well as impact of remoteness of area of residence and socioeconomic factors on timeliness. View this report Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018 2019 The Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018 is the 12th in the series, and shows data for the calendar year 2018 derived from the Australian Immunisation Register for all children aged <5 years. The report focusses on changes in vaccination coverage at key milestone ages of 12, 24 and 60 months between 2017 and 2018, but also documents longer term trends. ‘Fully vaccinated’ coverage increased at the 12- and 60-month milestones to 93.9% and 94.0%, respectively, but, in the context of additional antigens required, decreased to 90.1% at 24 months. The data analysed show there are continuing improvements in immunisation coverage and suggest potential new coverage targets for earlier protection in the first 2 years of life. View this report Vaccination for Our Mob 2019 Summary report of vaccine preventable diseases and vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Australia 2011-2015. The Vaccination for our Mob report highlights each disease in Australia that can be prevented by a vaccine available on the National Immunisation Program (NIP), describing how the disease is spread, signs and symptoms, who is most affected, how common the disease is and what proportion of people are vaccinated for the disease. It also includes how many cases of the disease are reported and how many people are hospitalised or die due to the disease. The report provides the most up-to-date data and comprehensive summary available at this time. Work has commenced on compiling and analysing data from the multiple sources required for the next reports to be released in approximately 2021. View this report Vaccine preventable diseases and vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Australia, 2011–2015 2019 This report, which focuses on the 2011–2015 period, is the fourth comprehensive NCIRS report on vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) and vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As with previous reports, it aims to analyse and assess routinely collected data on notifications, hospital admissions, deaths and vaccination coverage; time trends and support service delivery; policy development; and further research on the prevention of VPDs in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Recent peer-reviewed publications, providing more in-depth analysis and commentary on specific VPDs in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (all of which are referred to in relevant sections of the report), are listed at the end of the executive summary. This report identifies a range of achievements, through positive impacts of immunisation programs on the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as some continuing challenges. View this report Summary of national surveillance data on vaccine preventable diseases in Australia, 2012–2015 2019 This summary report on vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in Australia brings together the three most important national sources of routinely collected data on VPDs (notifications, hospitalisations and deaths) for all age groups for the four-year period January 2012 to December 2015. View this report Evaluation of the National Shingles Vaccination Program 2019 The National Shingles Vaccination Program was implemented from November 2016. This is the first major new vaccine program introduced for older Australians in more than a decade. The program provides free shingles vaccination, using Zostavax®, to adults aged 70 years, with a catch-up for those aged 71–79 years funded until 2021. The evaluation examined the implementation of the shingles vaccination program and also assessed vaccine coverage and safety data. Feedback from key stakeholders, primary healthcare providers and the public generally found that the program was well-promoted, well-delivered and the vaccine was a popular addition to the vaccination schedule for older Australians. View this report Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2017 2019 This 11th annual immunisation coverage report shows data for the calendar year 2017 derived from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) and the National Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Program Register. This is the first report to include data on HPV vaccine course completion in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adolescents. 'Fully immunised' coverage at the 12-month assessment age increased in 2017 to reach 93.8% and at the 60-month assessment age to reach 94.5% in December 2017. View this report Australian Immunisation Register Data Transfer Study 2018 This study represents the first attempt to systematically audit the accuracy of AIR data at the national level since 2001. Of the 905 records included in the final analysis, 86% were assessed as accurate (truly overdue) and 14% as inaccurate (i.e. the child appeared overdue despite being actually up to date for the relevant antigen). The error rate ranged from 3% in Victoria to 29% in New South Wales. View this report NCIRS 20th Anniversary brochure 2017 NCIRS celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017.
