COVID-19: Transmission in educational settings in NSW Term 2 report

        2020

NCIRS, with the support of the NSW Ministry of Health and NSW Department of Education, continued surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in educational settings between 10 April 2020 and 3 July 2020 (school term 2 of the academic year). This report summarises the preliminary findings of this work in early childhood education and care services, and primary and high schools in NSW.

COVID-19: Transmission in educational settings in NSW Term 1 report

        2020

NCIRS, with the support of the NSW Ministry of Health and Department of Education, started an investigation in early March into all COVID-19 cases in schools and early childhood education care (ECEC) services to understand the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in these educational settings in the context of New South Wales, Australia. This report summarises the findings of this investigation for the period 25 January 2020 to 9 April 2020 (school term 1 of the academic year) during the first pandemic wave, and updates preliminary data in our report dated 26 April 2020. This report can also be read in conjunction with a published peer-reviewed journal article on this study in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health.

Coverage at the 2-year and 5-year age milestones

        2020

This research report presents exploratory analysis of coverage estimates of vaccines/antigens assessed at the 2-year and 5-year age milestone and factors contributing to lower ‘fully vaccinated’ coverage at the 2-year age milestone than at the 5-year age milestone. It highlights that changes in the National Immunisation Program schedule and the more number of vaccines assessed at the 2-year coverage assessment algorithm have impacted coverage estimates at this milestone and suggests coverage algorithm at 5 years should be expanded to include a more comprehensive range of vaccines that a child should have received by this age to better reflect true coverage.

Review of pharmacist vaccination reporting to Australian Immunisation Register

        2020

With the role of pharmacies expanding to provide more vaccinations, and an important component of vaccine administration by any provider being reporting vaccinations to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), NCIRS conducted a study to analyse pharmacist vaccination data in AIR, describe the landscape of pharmacist vaccination and outline processes for recording and reporting pharmacist vaccinations to AIR.

COVID-19 in schools – the experience in NSW

        2020

This report has been superseded by a new report that summarises detailed findings from the schools investigation in Term 1. Refer to COVID-19: Transmission in schools and early childhood and education care services in NSW Term 1 report.

Exploratory analysis of adult vaccination data recorded on AIR

        2019

NCIRS conducted an exploratory analysis of adult vaccination data for selected vaccines recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) for the first 2 years of its establishment (October 2016 – September 2018). This research aims to inform continuous improvement of AIR data to evaluate the National Immunisation Program (NIP) outcomes and to provide improved information and feedback to providers and patients.

Key findings - Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018

        2019

This summary report presents key findings from the Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018 which focussed on changes in immunisation coverage among all children aged <5 years at key milestone ages of 12, 24 and 60 months between 2017 and 2018. The summary report shows 'fully vaccinated' coverage at 12, 24 and 60 months; individual vaccine/antigen coverage; rotavirus, MMR and influenza vaccination coverage; and coverage among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children while highlighting timeliness of vaccination issues as well as impact of remoteness of area of residence and socioeconomic factors on timeliness.

        Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018

        2019

The Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2018 is the 12th in the series, and shows data for the calendar year 2018 derived from the Australian Immunisation Register for all children aged <5 years. The report focusses on changes in vaccination coverage at key milestone ages of 12, 24 and 60 months between 2017 and 2018, but also documents longer term trends. ‘Fully vaccinated’ coverage increased at the 12- and 60-month milestones to 93.9% and 94.0%, respectively, but, in the context of additional antigens required, decreased to 90.1% at 24 months. The data analysed show there are continuing improvements in immunisation coverage and suggest potential new coverage targets for earlier protection in the first 2 years of life.

        Vaccination for Our Mob

        2019

Summary report of vaccine preventable diseases and vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Australia 2011-2015.  The Vaccination for our Mob  report highlights each disease in Australia that can be prevented by a vaccine available on the National Immunisation Program (NIP), describing how the disease is spread, signs and symptoms, who is most affected, how common the disease is and what proportion of people are vaccinated for the disease. It also includes how many cases of the disease are reported and how many people are hospitalised or die due to the disease. The report provides the most up-to-date data and comprehensive summary available at this time. Work has commenced on compiling and analysing data from the multiple sources required for the next reports to be released in approximately 2021.

Vaccine preventable diseases and vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Australia, 2011–2015

        2019

This report, which focuses on the 2011–2015 period, is the fourth comprehensive NCIRS report on vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) and vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As with previous reports, it aims to analyse and assess routinely collected data on notifications, hospital admissions, deaths and vaccination coverage; time trends and support service delivery; policy development; and further research on the prevention of VPDs in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Recent peer-reviewed publications, providing more in-depth analysis and commentary on specific VPDs in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (all of which are referred to in relevant sections of the report), are listed at the end of the executive summary. This report identifies a range of achievements, through positive impacts of immunisation programs on the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as some continuing challenges.
